Kiersten Firquain, or Chef K as she’s known, is a serial entrepreneur and the delicious mind behind Happy Food Co. and Get Happy Catering. Trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Greystone, her enthusiasm for food is only equaled by her commitment to impeccable customer service. She specializes in farm-to-table cuisine and cultivates relationships with local farmers and food producers who share her high standards for quality and flavor. Chef K is dedicated to local partnerships, philanthropy and working with like-minded organizations in the Kansas City community.
Cortney grew up with a love of all things food, from helping her father with catering to barbecuing at the American Royal. She’s accumulated over fifteen years of experience in the culinary industry, elevating comfort foods and turning classic dishes into memorable meals. Cortney added “competitive cook” to her resume when she joined the Kansas City Steak Company Cook Team and won her first World Food Championships in 2017. In 2018, she returned to lead her own team in the chili category. As catering chef for Get Happy, Cortney executes the Get Happy menu and trains the team on how to prepare the menu items. Passionate about food and photography, Cortney has a blog called Mad Foodie where she chronicles her daily discoveries and favorite dishes.
Jen has been with Chef K since the beginning of her culinary adventures. She wrangles communication for all things catering to ensure no app is overlooked and all details are covered. With 26 years of experience in hospitality, spanning the restaurant business to Kauffman event planning, she handles every size party with ease. Jen keeps us all on point and will not miss a detail to provide you with a fabulous, stress free event.
Merrill Gobetz is the procurement specialist for Happy Food Company, a local meal kitting service located in the Kansas City Metro Area. Prior to joining Happy Food Co, Merrill was district manager for Bistro Kids Farm2School lunch programs and education accounts with Treat America Food Services. Merrill was with Bistro Kids for 10 years, and was inspired by the founder’s passionate mission and philosophy to feed children healthy, fresh, and local food. She involves our community partners and nurtures vendor farmer relationships to ensure local meal kits are freshly prepared.
